Technology

Technology is a broad concept that deals with the usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects the ability to control and adapt to the environment. In human society, it is a consequence of science and engineering, although several technological advances predate the two concepts.

Technocapitalism (a portmanteau word combining "technology" and "capitalism," two of the most commonly used words in the social sciences) is a term used to describe the changes in capitalism brought about by the emergence of high technology sectors in the economy.

RCA Releases New Mini-Camcorders With Expandable Memory, Water Resistance RCA is refreshing and expanding its line of Small Wonder mini camcorders, positioned to compete with the wildly popular Flip Ultra. The new cams feature upgraded video quality, storage and skins, though unfortunately no rechargeable battery. The Pocket and MyLife models don't offer anything too revolutionary, but keep the same fold-out screen of the original, while the more rugged Traveler claims water resistance and shock-proof battery contacts, though the screen is built in to the body.

Motorola + Kodak's 5-Megapixel Cameraphone Leaked Shots
We've been hearing about a 5-megapixel cameraphone from Motorola and Kodak for more than a year now, but we've only recently seen leaked photos of the actual device. Boy Genius says it's running on Motorola's MOTOMAGX Linux platform and has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 100MB internal storage and a ROKR touch wheel. The problems? The camera isn't autofocus (ruh roh), and there's only EDGE. Someone's going to have some good times uploading blurry pictures over a slow connection when this is released

GADGET NEWS AND REVIEWS

Nokia N96: incoming!
But you'd best get saving 'cos this thing's pricier than Switzerland When it was launched, Finnish giant Nokia's N95 was the flagship mobly for the convergence generation, lobbing together plentiful features and applications in its portly plastic bod. Then the iPhone appeared and cruelly stole its limelight with its touchy feely loveliness.
Nokia is fighting back though with its new flagship dual-sliding N96, which if Play.com's pre-order page is to be believed will be coming to Blighty from 31 July, nearly two months after the expected 3G iPhone release on 9 June.
The N96 promises to channel DVB-H TV tuner for live telly action, WLAN, HSDPA, Nokia Maps with Assisted GPS, Carl Zeiss optics endowed five-Meg camera with flash and video light, FM radio, 16GB internal memory and 2.8-inch screen into your information receptors. Well endowed.
Hold on to your happy horses though, as the originally touted 550 euro (that's about £440 in proper money) price has seemingly been injected with cash collagen by Play.com, who is offering it up at a bank breaking £599 for an un-locked SIM free model. Ouch.
For that kind of cash we'd rather buy a 3G iPhone and take our mums to Butlins for the weekend.

Threes up for Nokia
New blowers boast OLED, noise cancellation and more fancy features
Keen to re-establish itself in the sexy sector of a market it once dominated, Nokia is bringing three new mobiles to the market amid a fanfare of overblown adjectives and grandiose claims of beauty. We can't wait to get our grubby mitts on 'em.
Fist up in the moby trinity is the 275Euro (plus taxes and subsidies) 6600 fold, which pops open at the touch of a button. Inside that foldy bod we get 3G, a 2Mp camera with double LED flash and Internet access, with the goods displayed on a 2.3-inch OLED 16million colour screen. The fold promises to be "a comfortable contour" when open and "subtle and compact" when closed, with a double tap waking it up a hidden outer display detailing missed calls, messages and other such gubbins. Another double tap also rejects calls and snoozes alerts, much in the same way as a Mafioso double tap to the back of the head silences pesky double crossers in bed with the Feds.
Taking up the middle ground is the 250Euro (plus taxes and subsidies) 6600 Slide, bedecked in plastic, steel and aluminium. Sporting the same tap technology as its folding sibling, the cam is upgraded to 3.2Mp with direct Internet upload and the display is bumped to 2.2 inches, though it's only QVGA this time round. Pre-loaded with Nokia Maps, it can also be used for navigation with the option to upgrade via Nokia' Bluetooth GPS for delivery "into the hands of urban trekkers and leisure travellers".
Bringing up the rear is the 175Euro (plus taxes and subsidies) 3600 Slide, that aims to win over our hearts and minds with its multiple colours and tactile surfaces, much like Princess Di. The first Nokia product to feature background noise cancellation, it sports a microSD card slot capable of storing up to 3,000 tunes on an optional 4GB card. There's a 3.2Mp camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, the Nokia Maps app and TV-out for hooking up direct to your telly.
All three arrive in the latter half of the year with an optional Bluetooth headset designed to complement these phones specifically, though we bet it'll still make you look like a git.

LG Secret is out
Well, it's out in May. But it's called the Secret, so it works
After all the hubbub of what the next in LG's Black Label series was going to be called, we can now reveal it: Secret.
It was announced this morning at a press conference, amid lots of smoke and pumping euro techno.
Officially known as the KF750, it's the slimmest 5-megapixel camera phone going, with 3G HSDPA capabilities for watching videos of monkeys on YouTube.
It also comes with DivX playback, an accelerometer for rotating the screen when you turn the phone, and a TV-out socket for playing back your vids on the big screen.
LG was keen to highlight how strong the tempered glass front is, and how it's built to last. We're getting a hands-on tomorrow, so will let you know if this fashion mutha is tougher than Naomi Campbell.
